Returning e-mail
"What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream"
This is not a rant, just a simple point of view.
I make it a point to always return a phone call, or answer an e-mail. Tonight I looked through my Inbox, and noticed an e-mail from a friend was not marked "replied to." It actually freaked me out for a minute. I always respond to her e-mail. She is a dear friend of mine, and I do not get to talk to her enough. Anytime I get an e-mail from her it makes me happy. Simple as that. She and her husband are good people. She has been there for my through highs and lows, and is always there to talk to. Hell, there was one time where I had to talked her down from whoopin' up on one of my ex's. She told me that it took all she had in her not to come across the table, and beat the hell out of the ex. Let's just say the ex treated me very poorly, and we did not depart on good terms.
But back to my friend and the e-mail. She doesn't get to check her e-mail often. She and the hubby work different shifts, so there time together is few and far between. But she does e-mail we usually respond to each other back and forth quite a few times. Until the banter trickles down to banalities. Then we usually pic back up every month. The point is, we always respond back to one another. Then I realized that I had shot her a response via webmail at work. That made be breath a sigh of relief.
I've got a few e-mails hanging out there, unresponded to. This may sound like nothing, but most are to friends and cohorts that are supposed to get back with me. For some, months have passed. It'd be nice if they take a minute to look at what I sent them, and respond. Most things I sent out were things that they wanted to look over, and give me tips / suggestions on. Website design, stories, etc. Just little things. Nothing too important, but also not too time consuming. It just baffles me sometimes. Some people respond no matter how busy. Others you couldn't get a response out of even if you drove over to their house carrying a rubber mallet and some tubing.
What brought me to this observation is that I am building my personal website to show samples of my design work, photography, and writing. My idea for the bio page is to have a Q+A. Hopefully that way I won't sound like too much of a self-aggrandizing bastard. I looked through my address book to figure out who I could ask to take a little time, and interview me. Out of about 40+ names, she was the only one that I think would do it no matter what. She won't say yes, then welsh on me later to the point that I have to bug her about it. We'll meet up sometime, and she'll interview me.
That's the definition of a true friend.
Until next time:
