Is it possible to mess up Okra?
"I am the passenger, and I ride and I ride..."
Last night was my first attempt at cooking something since way back when I was in high school. My buddy Base and I used to stay up late on the weekend, cooking hamburgers in a skillet. A tip, when cooking hamburgers in a skillet do not, and I repeat do not, put a quarter inch of oil in the skillet. Ouch!
Making okra takes no great skill. I mean, it's not like I made Turkey Tetrazini. But still I feel accomplished. The okra was good, if I do say so myself. I did not burn it. Did not undercook it. I learned that the breading does not stick too well in the early going. I think next time I will add breading to my oil when it first heats up. That and start out with far less oil. My okra looked like green marshmallows floating in clear hot chocolate.
I also fixed chicken on the George Forman grill at the same time. I learned from the ladies in the back that next time I need to pound the chicken down a bit to make it cook better throughout, without burning the outside.
Until next time:
